Company profile

Fabrika cementa Lukavac d.d. is the leading manufacturer of portland and masonry cement in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the privatization process in October 2001 Fabrika cementa Lukavac - FCL became a member of the renowned business group Asamer from Austria. FCL is now 99% owned by the company Asamer Baustoffe AG. Asamer has become a business authority in production of gravel, stone, cement and concrete. Spreading over the markets of Austria, Slovakia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, Asamer employs around 1.000 employees. Business and wellbeing of local and wider community in an ecologically healthy environment, alongside long-term business strategy, which implies constant investment, plant modernization, environment protection, improvement of products’ quality, as well as education of the employees and constant meeting the customers demands, are the foundations of business philosophy of FCL. That business strategy was honoured by the acquiring of certificates ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004.

Within Fabrika cementa Lukavac operate subsidiaries in Banja Luka and Istočno Sarajevo with concrete production as primary activity, through which FCL distributes cement in these areas. The start of a subsidiary in Sarajevo is planned as well. Fabrika cementa Lukavac is also the owner of 50% of the limestone mine "Vijenac”, an industrial quarry which supplies limestone to FCL and other plants based in Lukavac. Vijenac also supplies stone aggregates for the production of concrete, lower layers of tarmac and embankments. Geological reserves of the quarry are estimated at ca 350 – 400 million tons. As a part of FCL also operates "CEDIS" d.o.o., company for production, construction, trade and services. We take pride in the fact that we have taken the role of the creator of positive image of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a role model, which shows to all potential investors that serious investments are welcomed and possible here, and that they can be successfully implemented in cooperation with motivated and qualified local experts.

Over the past eight years, with over 200,000,000 KM invested, Asamer has made business and ecological revival in Lukavac that was unimaginable before. Starting from a decrepit, dilapidated factory, built back in 1974 with its old technology and modest annual capacity of about 300,000 tons of cement, opening of the new production line in 2009 enabled FCL to reach two and a half times higher capacity. Nowadays it is capable of producing over 800,000 tons of cement and 600,000 tons of clinker annually. Becoming the largest cement manufacturer in Bosnia and Herzegovina was possible only with good business strategy and constant investment in state-of-the-art technologies.

Those investments have been recognized by the institutions of authority as the biggest "green field" investment in the economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2008, when FCL received the first prize in the category "The best foreign investor” by the Agency for promotion of foreign investment in Bosnia and Herzegovina (FIPA) . The latest production line includes modern, so called bag filters, which release into the air only 10 milligrams dust per cubic meter of air. And that is five times ecologically more efficient than norms, which are prescribed by the strict rules of the European Union. Today our factory is so ecologically reliable and clean, that it could be placed in the centre of any european city without any fears.

That is why Fabrika cementa Lukavac is also widely known as the "Green Cement Factory”…
